An insight into a special day at our Sussex wedding venue…
Magical in more ways than one, Katy and Nic held their reception at Ham Manor – no love potions needed…
Tell us about the proposal
“Katy had been hinting for a few years, even to the extent that she’d tell her friends and family every special occasion/holiday that she was going to come back engaged.” Nic explains. “As a result, I decided to make the proposal as unromantic as possible to wind her up. We play a game where we nudge one another if we see a Mini Countryman car on the road – so I bought a toy one that happened to be the same size as a ring box. That Christmas, her final present from me was a small ring sized box, which she opened in front of her family expecting a ring and found the Mini instead. After she calmed down and admitted that she was expecting a ring, I then proposed nicely to cheer her up.”
Where did your ceremony take place?
“St Peter’s Church, in Henfield.” Nic tells us. Lots of couples choose to say their vows in a church setting, but for those who want the convenience of a day all in one beautiful venue, Ham Manor has a fully licensed ceremony room with a view of the golf course.
What made you choose Ham Manor for your reception?
“We felt that the building layout was perfect for us, especially the dance floor and uplighters.” Nic says. “We’d been to some weddings where the venue was too spread out so not many people danced etc, whereas the open plan of Ham Manor would encourage dancing.” Katy and Nic made the most of our resident DJ, who provided plenty of tunes to get guests up and moving!
Tell us about the theme of your wedding, your inspiration and how you decorated the venue?
“We chose Harry Potter as we wanted to have an unusual wedding with lots of props/theming. We themed the tables around different events in Harry Potter – whomping willow, great hall, diagon alley etc. We then had floating candles and flying keys from the ceiling, and had home made wands and golden snitches as favours.” The very impressive Hogwarts House cake was made by the talented Petra’s Cakes in Worthing – and it’s any Harry Potter fan’s dream!
What did you have to eat?
“For the wedding breakfast, we had chicken breast with potatoes, and white and dark chocolate terrine. In the evening, we had bacon and sausage rolls and chips.”
What will be your most treasured memory of the day?
“Both our families linking arms and all dancing and singing together on the dance floor. The whole day was perfection. Everything went so smoothly and was everything we ever dreamed it could be.”
Where did you spend your honeymoon?
“We had a mini moon in Yorkshire, and for our honeymoon we jet off to New York!”
