Ham Manor member Charlie Strickland is representing the club with some aplomb at the British Amateur Golf Championships at Princes and Royal St Georges Golf Clubs this week.
Charlie has reached the last 64 by way of a 2 round strokeplay competition where he shot rounds of 69 (-3) at Princes and 71 (+1) at Royal St Georges to finish -2 for the 36 holes and to qualify comfortably inside the top 64.
On Wednesday 21st June Charlie will play his last 64 match against Sandy Scott (from Scotland obviously!). Teeing off around 9.30 you can follow Charlie’s progress directly on the R&A website by clicking here.
We will be updating this page with further progress (hopefully) from throughout the week. Good luck Charlie, all at Ham Manor are thrilled for you and wish you all the best in the matchplay.
UPDATE: 2.26pm Wed, 21st June. Charlie wins last 64 match by 2&1 to progress to last 32. More info of the opponent and time to follow but it will take place early on Thursday 22nd June.
UPDATE: 7.30am Thurs, 22nd June. Charlie plays Min Woo Lee from Australia in the last 32. Teeing off at 7.39am. Come on Charlie! One of only 7 Englishmen left in the competition! An amazing effort.
UPDATE: 12 noon. Charlie has just beaten the 2nd best Australian Amateur in the World…….!! Min Woo Lee who is ranked 47 in the World (Amateur) was 2 up with 3 to play but Charlie dug deep and won on the 1st extra hole. Min Woo Lee is the reigning US Junior Amateur Champion!
Charlie has some unbelievable resilience!!! His opponent for the next round is not determined yet, they are playing the 24th hole! His tee-time is expected to be 3.30pm! This has to help Charlie hopefully as the eventual winner won’t have much turnaround time and they could also be very tired.
