Ham Manor couldn’t be prouder of McEvoy trophy winner Charlie Strickland, who started his golfing journey as a Ham Manor junior
Junior membership is something we feel is very important at Ham Manor, because we’re passionate about nurturing a passion for golf in Under 18’s. For any young, budding golfers in need of inspiration to get going at Ham Manor, they need only look to our very own trophy-winning Charlie Strickland. He is testament to the power of Ham Manor Junior Membership, and has recently been racking up some impressive wins.
Heralded as a ‘teenage sensation’, Charlie fell in love with golf right here on our beautiful course, under the wing of our club professional. The 17 year old has been smashing national and international tournaments for a number of years, and we’re so pleased to say that he’s already celebrated several big triumphs in 2017.
In April, he won the Duncan Putter at Southerndown 6 shots ahead of the runners up, and was under par in each of the four rounds. A mere four days later, he championed in the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath, despite less-than-desirable weather conditions, managing to overtake the joint leaders in the final round. You can read the full report here. A truly amazing performance from any golfer, but made even more remarkable considering he is not yet 18. On Twitter, he thanked everyone for their support, and added “Still can’t believe it’s happened! #2inarow”
Not only this, but he went on to come 2nd at The Lytham Trophy, with an impressive final round 73.
Charlie is proof of the things that can be achieved from beginning as a Ham Manor junior, and you can find out more about our junior academy here. We wish Charlie continued success in his future competitive endeavours!
